Located on the borders of Germany, Poland, and the Czech Republic, Herrnhut is an ancient well of revival, restoration, and refuge; and has been called the birth place of classical missions. It was on this piece of land, owned by a wealthy aristocrat Count Zinzendorf, that a group of refugees fleeing religious persecution settled.
This consecrated land was named Herrnhut, which translated means the “The Lord’s watch”. Those who came to be under the watchful protection of the Lord would go on to carry the vision of being on “the watch of the Lord”. Under the leadership of the Holy Spirit what started as a group of refugees became a thriving intercessory and missional community.
In 1727, heaven and earth met in a unique way when the Holy Spirit fell upon the entire community during a communion service. This outpouring inspired a 24/7 prayer chain that continued for over 100 years as well as an intense longing to reach every tribe, tongue and nation with the love of Jesus. Many went to the farthest corners of the earth, some even willing to sell themselves into slavery to reach destinations where the Gospel had not yet been shared. They lived out their faith willing to give it all away, first and foremost with each other and then to the nations.
Herrnhut, is a place where God’s manifest presence has transformed lives and changed the course of history. It is fertile soil for hearts to be revitalized by heavens touch and renewed in identity and purpose.
