What does Mahanaim mean?

After years of dwelling in a foreign land and acquiring a large family with many goods, Jacob set out for his homeland. As he made camp on this journey Jacob was met by the hosts of heaven. He named the location of his angelic encounter Mahanaim (two camps) because here he experienced the intersection of God’s camp and his own. At Mahanaim Jacob’s entire being was forever changed by heavens touch; body, soul and spirit.

In the book of Joshua, Mahanaim is mentioned among the cities of refuge entrusted to the tribe of Levi. This place would have been set apart as an altar of worship to carry the anointing of Gods presence. Here God’s people could run to for safety and security.

King David, retreated to Mahanaim with his army generals to find safety and to strategize how to win the battle against the rebel forces of his son Absalom. He was urged to remain in the city of refuge and send support from there as the most helpful tactic to ensure victory for the men fighting on the battle field.

Inspired by these Biblical accounts and the vision God is birthing in our hearts, we felt led to choose the name Mahanaim for the ministry that will flow from our property.

Mahanaim House is a place, for heaven and earth to converge; of transformation in Gods presence; of consecration to build an altar of worship and prayer; of refuge and retreat for God’s people; of safety to receive divine strategies for advancing God’s kingdom; and a place of support and help to those fighting on the front-lines.
